How to Create Your First Poured Candle?

To create your first poured candle, you’ll need essential materials. You will also need poured candle wax, a fragrance of your choice, a container, and a wick.

Here are the steps:

PREPARATION OF SCENTED WAX

First, weigh the amount of wax you need and gently heat it in a double boiler. When the wax is melted, remove it from the double boiler, check the temperature, and add your fragrance while respecting its flashpoint (information available on the product sheet of your fragrance).

POURING THE WAX

Monitor the temperature of your preparation to know when to start pouring your wax; you can find this information on the product sheet of the chosen wax.

Pour the wax directly into your container using a piston funnel or a beaker. However, it is very important to pour the wax slowly and evenly to avoid incorporating air into your candle and to achieve a uniform and smooth finish.

Pro tip: To maximize wax adhesion to the walls of your container, we recommend heating your container with a heat gun before pouring the wax.

THE WICK

Two methods exist for incorporating the wick: you can either integrate it before pouring the wax or after.
Here, we will explain how to integrate the wick once the wax has been poured. For this, simply wait for your wax to crystallize, solidify at the bottom, and gently insert the wick into the wax, centering it and holding it at the bottom for a few seconds. You can then use a wick holder to keep it centered while it crystallizes.

DRYING AND FINISHING

It’s time to let your candle dry; you’ll need to wait 48 to 72 hours for the candle to fully crystallize.
Once your candle is completely crystallized, you can then trim your wick. It’s important to trim it to 1 cm to ensure optimal burning.

Pro tip: Use a heat gun to smooth out small imperfections and achieve a uniform candle surface.

Now you know how to create a poured candle. Happy crafting!
