07/02/2024
It’s important to incorporate your fragrances into your creations to achieve the best olfactory result possible. How to Scent a Candle? You need to follow some rules!
Let's dive in!
WHEN TO ADD THE FRAGRANCE?
To determine the right time to add your fragrance to your wax preparation, refer to the technical data sheet of the fragrance, which is available on the product page of the fragrance you’ll be using. The information we’re interested in is the fragrance’s flashpoint, which is specific to each fragrance.
The flashpoint is the minimum temperature at which the vapors of the fragrance can ignite when in contact with an open flame. In other words, above this temperature, the fragrance can degrade, so it’s advisable to add your fragrance at a temperature lower than its flashpoint.
FRAGRANCE DOSAGE
For making poured candles, molded candles, or scented wax melts, we recommend dosing your fragrance at 7% or 10%.
In general, scented wax melts can have a higher fragrance dosage than poured or molded candles.
You can also consider the strength of the fragrance. If it’s very potent, you can dose it at 7%, while if it’s lighter, you can dose it at 10%.
FRAGRANCE DOSAGE AT 7%
Here are the calculations to determine the quantity of fragrance and wax for your creation:
WAX QUANTITY = TOTAL SCENTED WAX x 93%
FRAGRANCE QUANTITY = TOTAL SCENTED WAX x 7%
Let’s take the example of a 100g candle:
WAX QUANTITY = 100g x 93% = 93g
FRAGRANCE QUANTITY = 100g x 7% = 7g
FRAGRANCE DOSAGE AT 10%
Here are the calculations to determine the quantity of fragrance and wax for your creation:
WAX QUANTITY = TOTAL SCENTED WAX x 90%
FRAGRANCE QUANTITY = TOTAL SCENTED WAX x 10%
Let’s take the example of a 100g candle:
WAX QUANTITY = 100g x 90% = 90g
FRAGRANCE QUANTITY = 100g x 10% = 10g
Now you have all the information you need to effectively incorporate fragrances into your scented creations!
